Plaza
Catalunya – Las Ramblas - This is definitely
the first attraction you should visit in Barcelona.
Las Ramblas is the most famous street in Spain. This
boulevard, almost 2 km long and situated between the
Plaça de Catalunya and the port, was once upon
a time the site of a mountain stream. Today it is
a long, busy promenade marked with street performers,
human statues, and stalls selling everything you can
think of. Linking Plaça Catalunya and modern
Barcelona with the old town and the sea, this is more
than just a wonderful place to walk.
To the east of Las Ramblas lies
the Barri Gòtic, the oldest quarter of Barcelona.
Here you can visit the Gothic cathedral, the old Jewish
Call, and the Town Hall.
On Las Ramblas, be sure to drop by La Boquería
Market, one of the city's largest markets.
This colorful market offers everything a gourmet wishes:
fresh fish, fruits, meat, etc. Also visit the Liceu
Theatre, the city's grand opera house built in 1847.
Even though it burned down twice it was completely
restored and reopened in 2000. Since it is very hard
to get tickets for one of the operas, be sure to visit
their website for more information about the programming
and ticket purchase.
At the bottom of Las Ramblas is the Columbus
Statue (Mirador a Colon).
While striding in Las Ramblas also
be sure to stop by the Plaza Reial. Apart from finding
great cheap restaurants, you will see the Fountain.
There is an old saying that reads as follows: “If
you drink a drop of water from this fountain, we will
visit Barcelona once again”.
Las Ramblas is an endless adventure,
which combines art, gastronomy, architecture and culture.
It a lively place from dust dill dawn, that fascinate
